Weight Loss is a Journey

If you’ve decided to lose weight, be ready for a long journey.  It takes time and dedication to shed those pounds and keep them off.  It’s not just a physical journey; it’s a mental and emotional one, too!  We’re here with tips and tricks to keep you on track.

Give Yourself a Purpose

Losing weight is all well and good, but if your only goal is to see the scale going down, you will find it challenging to keep going when you hit a plateau or gain weight during the journey.

By establishing a reason and changing your terminology to “I want,” you’re much more likely to stick with it and succeed.

Take Stock of the Now

As soon as you start your weight loss journey, you need to get a baseline of your current stats.

This includes your weight and measurements. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you’re doing a lot of exercises, you might not see the scale going down, but your measurements will!

It’s also difficult to feel like you’re making progress if you’re constantly checking and measuring  “the you” today against “the you”  from yesterday. Your baseline will show you the tremendous progress you’ve made weeks and months later.

Set Goals that Aren’t Diet and Exercise

Weight loss isn’t just about diet and exercise. Sleep, hydration, and stress management are a huge part of getting and staying healthy while losing weight.

Set sleep goals to ensure you’re getting the rest you need, hydration goals to ensure your water intake is optimal, and list out techniques for dealing with stress.

Stress releases a hormone called cortisol which can undermine your weight loss journey.  By setting these goals, you’ll have tangible things to focus on aside from your diet.

Learn to Forgive Yourself

There will be days when you slip up and eat something you shouldn’t, or when you can’t get the exercise you promised yourself you would.

Forgive yourself for those moments and move onwards.  Dwelling on your self-imposed failures will make it hard to stay on course.

Build a Community

Finding people on the same journey as you and celebrating your successes together is a great way to ensure you keep at it.

You can also challenge each other to do better and share your struggles without judgment.  People who have a community are more likely to not only lose weight but keep it off!

With these five tips and tricks, you can start your weight loss journey today. Focus on the good, let go of the bad, and set yourself attainable goals. You’ve got this!
