Five Minute Exercises that Fit in Any Schedule

With many of us holding two or even three jobs to make ends meet, it’s hard to find time to work out. Still, exercise is crucial for a healthy body! Thankfully, science is on our side. Just five minutes of exercise at a time can make all the difference. Let’s look at which activities give the most impact in a short time frame.

Jump Roping

Jump roping is excellent cardio, and it works best in small doses. It’s one of the most effective exercises for losing weight, and it has the added benefit of boosting your hand/eye coordination. Even better, the equipment is cheap and easy to take with you wherever you go! Consider doing a five-minute session when you first wake up, during your lunch break, and again an hour after dinner.

The One Minute Exercise Routine

Doing five one-minute exercises such as burpees, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, push-ups, and running in place can give you a full-body workout that will leave you breathless. This set of exercises is intense, but when the one-minute timer is counting down, you’ll find it easy to make it through them! For maximum results, try to get this five-minute workout in as many times a day as you can, and be sure to drink plenty of water.


Don’t worry. No one expects you to hold a plank for five minutes straight, but dedicating five minutes to get three one-minute planks done can have a considerable impact. Try one minute on, one off, one on, one off, and one on again. If you’ve never done a plank before, this may seem silly, but don’t laugh until you try it. If you can’t hold a plank for a full minute, don’t fret! Just work up to it, and before you know it, you might be doing a two-minute plank with a one-minute rest period!

Stair Sprints

Taking five minutes out of your day whenever possible, sprint up and down a set of stairs. This is great cardio and will get your blood pumping. It will also build muscle mass in your legs, which can train your body to put your metabolism to good use. Make sure you’re wearing proper footwear during this exercise, as this one comes with a high slip and fall risk.

Now that you have four exercises you can do in five minutes, it’s time to get started! Feel free to mix and match between the ones above and be sure to get plenty of protein and fiber in your diet to help your muscles recover.
