Mediterranean Diet

This particular diet includes mostly plant-based foods such as fruits and vegetables, potatoes, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, and extra virgin olive oil.

For meats, you’ll choose lean poultry, fish, seafood, dairy, and eggs.

A large part of this diet is removing processed foods, added sugar, and refined grains from everyday food choices.

This diet has been shown to have many health benefits including weight loss, helping to prevent heart attacks, strokes, and Type 2 diabetes, among other chronic diseases.

2. Belly Fat Diet Plan using NOOM

Noom’s weight loss app focuses on lifestyle and behavioral changes surrounding food and exercise.  The foods Noom encourages are much the same as the Mediterranean diet.  Unprocessed food, plant-based, lean meats, portion control, and eating fewer calories than you burn.

Noom’s App is a great tool, helping you stay on track with your goals.  They provide tons of healthy easy-to-prepare meals; breakfast, lunch, dinners, snacks, and some deserts.

There’s a place to log your meals each day where it shows certain foods in categories; “Green”, “Yellow”, and “Red” food groups.

30% of foods you eat should come from the “Green” food category, 45% from the “Yellow”, and 25% from the “Red”.

The categories are a method of teaching you about different foods and how they should be classified as.

In my opinion, Noom’s App program has been a successful tool for me.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting is one of the most popular diets because it’s easy, sustainable, and can fit around most people’s schedules.

Basically, you pick a scheduled amount of time during a day that you can eat, limiting it to an 8-hour period.  This is called 8/16 intermittent fasting.

For example;

  • 1 am to 3 pm
  • 9 am to 5 pm
  • 12 pm to 8 pm
  • 2 pm to 10 pm

During the unscheduled 16 hours, you abstain from food completely and only drink no-calorie beverages; water, coffee, & unsweetened tea.

 


Low Carb Diet

A low-carb diet is just that.  Stay away from sugar, refined grains, trans-fats, highly processed foods, diet & low-fat products, and starchy vegetables.

Grains

  • Wheat
  • Rice 
  • Bread
  • Cereal
  • Pasta

Trans-Fats & Low-Fat Products

  • Hydrogenated oils

Process Foods

  • Anything that looks packaged from manufacturing;
    • Cereal bars
    • Frozen dinners
    • Nabs
    • Boxed or bagged cereal
    • Canned food

Foods to focus on while on a low carb diet include;

Grassfed Meats (preferred)

    • Beef
    • Chicken
    • Lamb
    • Pork

Fish

  • Salmon
  • Trout
  • Haddock

Vegetables

  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers

Other food choices come from fruits, nuts & seeds, high-fat dairy, fats, and oils.

As you can see, a low-carb diet limits many foods, but there are still plenty of foods you can eat.

Ketogenic dieting consists of turning fats into fuel.  It is a low-carb, high-fat diet allowing you to still eat foods you love.

The trick to this diet is eating foods high in fat and limiting carbs lowers blood sugar and insulin levels.  This causes your body to go into a metabolic state called Ketosis.

With more fat than carbs in your system, the body becomes a fat-burning machine replacing fat for energy.

The Paleo diet includes lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.  Foods to avoid consist of grains, legumes, dairy products, refined sugar, salt, potatoes, and highly processed foods.

An example of what a menu would look like if you were on this diet might look something like this;

Breakfast:  Broiled Salmon with cantaloupe

Lunch:  Lean pork loin with a fresh salad and Paleo approved salad dressing

Dinner:  Lean beef sirloin tip roast, steamed broccoli, mixed greens salad, and strawberries for desert

Snacks:  Oranges, carrot sticks, or celery stalks
